For most of the past decade, investors have been purchasing many of the older buildings in the area and refurbishing them to accommodate new businesses, incorporating the buildings’ original design, layout and integrity into the new concept. What were not long ago vacant buildings and sidewalks have now become full of bustling businesses and nightspots.
The Green Building located at 732 E. Market St., earned LEED Platinum Certification in 2010, becoming Louisville's first commercial LEED Platinum structure and Kentucky's first LEED Platinum adaptive reuse structure.
In addition to the everyday happenings in NuLu, the neighborhood is also a large part of the city’s First Friday Trolley Hop, held the first Friday of each month. The First Friday Trolley Hop is free and open to the public and can be boarded at any trolley stop along the route on Market and Main Street, between Campbell and 10th Street. Most NuLu businesses offer extended hours along with product and menu specials to attendees/riders of the Trolley Hop.
The NuLu Festival is held In September of every year and is open to the public. Many local vendors, craft brewers and live bands assemble on E Market St. to celebrate the neighborhood’s revitalization.
