Dine at Bluegrass Brewing Company in Louisville Kentucky - Louisville Article
BBC: Way More Than Just The Best Beer In Town! Follow @nyccitiview
Pat Hagan opened Louisville’s oldest-running Brewpub when he launched and created the innovative Bluegrass Brewing Company in 1993. After spending several years criss-crossing the country between California and Louisville, he finally settled here in the Derby City and has remained a highly-respected fixture on the food and dining scene ever since.
BBC Is Louisville's Oldest Craft Brewery
The beers crafted at Bluegrass Brewing Company have been a consistent local favorite. This is due in large part to Pat staying true to his original mission, “To create bold, unique, hand-crafted beers, quality affordable food, and serve them both in a warm and comfortable, family friendly atmosphere.”
The Bluegrass Brewing Company has won many local and national awards and are recognized across the country for the “hoppy” flavor that Pat Hagan knows and loves.
BBC Serves Great Food & Beer At All Louisville Locations
The BBC, as they have become known, has two locations open in the downtown Louisville area featuring the same excellent menus and expansive list of craft beers.
All locations of the BBC feature comfy environs, exceptional food and incredible beer to match the menu. One thing for sure is that no matter what you like or what you choose on the menu you’re going to walk out impressed and smiling. Pat Hagan’s commitment to welcoming hospitality is evident throughout.
We recently visited both downtown locations and had a wonderful experience at each. The menu at Bluegrass Brewing Company is full of unique twists on your favorite casual dishes, incredible burgers and a Hot Brown that outshines the original one created just a few blocks away at a local hotel.
BBC's Pro Tips For Craft Beer Consumption:
Of course the menu of beer is as impressive as you’d expect. BBC is Louisville’s original craft brewery and pride themselves on their handcrafted, award winning beer. The beer menu features “always on tap” standards, seasonal offerings, and specialty brews. Their Pro tips: When enjoying your beer consider these things:
Of course, we sampled several on our visit. All of them were great of course! We sampled the Altbier Amber Ale which is light, smooth and easy to drink. Another great choice we made was the raspberry Meade. This fermented honey ale is flavored with raspberries and blackberries making it fruity and light despite its higher 7.8 ABV. Other favorites we tried were the James Blonde 007, Irish Red and the robust Dark Star Porter. You can try them by the glass or sample several in a flight. Up to you and your sense of adventure!
The BBC Food Menu Delivers!
The food menu at BBC does not disappoint either! The vast and tasty choices make it hard to decide what to eat! It is important for many to note that there are Vegetarian options here and that makes any BBC location a crowd pleaser and helping to leave no one behind!
We started with the Fried Buffalo Cauliflower which was an instant hit. The cauliflower was fried perfectly and the buffalo sauce was a unique combination that left us with a quickly empty plate and smiling faces all around the table.
We tried two entrees. First was the Blackened Salmon Tacos. The Blackened Salmon was complemented with Roasted Aioli Slaw, cilantro rice, Caramelized Lime and a side of Salsa Verde. The cilantro rice was a nice twist, as was the caramelized lime. Both tacos were quickly history!
The dish that took the prize though was the BBC rendition of the Louisville classic, the Hot Brown. This tasty dish was made with smoked turkey, sliced tomatoes, bacon, mornay sauce, cheddar jack cheese and smoked paprika served open faced over sourdough toast. WOW! Being from Louisville, we’ve tried many attempts at this famous dish but this one is the best ever! Don’t miss it! You’ll be talking about it for months.
We wrapped things up with a perfectly-made brownie and ice cream and it was a delicious end to one of the best meals we’ve had in some time. The BBC is famous for their beer, but don’t think that’s where it ends because the menu at the Bluegrass Brewing Company is a star of its own right, putting them in a category with the finer chefs in the area.
The BBC Downtown Locations Offer Excellent Al Fresco Dining
Another bonus of dining at either downtown BBC location is the ability to eat outdoors and enjoy the bustling Louisville downtown. The patio at the South 4th St. location is especially spacious and set back from the street enough to create a dining adventure that is both relaxing and comfortable.
The Bluegrass Brewing Company is highly recommended. They offer exceptional service, an excellent menu and a list of the best beers in the area. For beer lovers this is a mecca. For those not yet inclined, you’ll find plenty of new favorite brews and walk away a fan of it all!
