South Fourth: Cool Shops. Classic Street

Discover the Best Things to Do in Downtown Louisville, Kentucky

The Sou4th District, downtown Louisville’s historic center of retail and entertainment, is undergoing a vibrant era of revitalization. Sou4th is now home to innovative and locally-owned retail shops, art galleries, entertainment venues, historic and new hotels and unique dining destinations.

In the 1950’s, this area of Downtown was the city’s center of retail activity, however, the history of local shopping dates back to the beginning of the last century.

Today, you’ll find a chocolatier, confectioner, and ice cream shop; an innovative new retail and community space for local artists; locally designed and created jewelry; artisan craft, candles and home goods; fabulous clothing and accessories; handbags, contemporary and traditional décor, and fine art galleries.

Dining in Downtown Louisville's Historic Sou4th District

Casual dining options include Sicilian Pizza & Pasta, Safier Mediterranean Deli, Bluegrass Brewing Company, and Mi Casita. Cooking @ Millie’s offers fun classes with local chefs, while fine dining options include Theater Square Marketplace, and 8UP, the rooftop bar and restaurant on top of the Hilton Garden Inn. Evenings come alive at The Limbo – Louisville’s only Tiki Bar, and with dynamic music acts at The Palace Theatre and the Mercury Ballroom.

Sou4th is a large part of the city’s Republic Bank First Friday Hop on the all-new ZeroBus. Held on the first Friday of each month, The Hop is free and open to the public. The ZeroBus stops along the route of Market, Main and Fourth Streets.
