Last weekend some friends and I decided to do something different than what we normally do so we hopped in my buddy’s car and started out on River Road toward Captain’s Quarters restaurant in Prospect. The drive was absolutely beautiful; on one side of the road you have some of the nicest parks in Louisville and on the other side is the Ohio River. I’ve been living in Louisville for a while now and I’ve never been more pleased with a drive around the city. We drove around for a while looking at all the boats and mansions, until we arrived at Captains Quarters, one of the best Louisville restaurants on the river, hands-down.
Louisville Waterfront Dining at Captain’s Quarters
This restaurant is located on the Ohio river… Not across the street or off the bank by 200 yards or more, no. We’re talking on the river. Driving into the parking lot, you’ll pass a marina filled with big yachts and fast boats, and at this point, we were all sold on checking out the restaurant.
We walked up to the hostess asking for an outdoor table for five, which they quickly and happily accommodated us with. As we were sitting there, drinking the local brew, a massive yacht pulled into the canal and docked right next to the restaurant for their dockside dining option for boats and it was fascinating to watch the process take place.
Captain’s Quarters Louisville Menu
The food at Captain’s Quarters in Louisville is just as great as the views of the Ohio River! I ordered a rack of ribs smothered in their house BBQ Sauce, while my friends opted for various other meals of classic American fare from the eclectic menu. The ribs were more than satisfying for me, and the others also hailed their food as delicious.
Captain’s Quarters is the best “local” spot for a quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of downtown and enjoy some scenic Louisville waterfront dining. On the weekends, the restaurant also offers live local music and combined with the entertainment value of the boats, there isn’t a cooler place I’d rather choose for a weekend brunch, lunch or dinner.
