Matt Weber: Uptown Cafe in Louisville

A Louisville native Matt Weber began his culinary career at Cafe Metro, one of the city’s first premier fine dine restaurants, and the Uptown Cafe’s now-defunct sister restaurant, in the 1980’s. During his time at Cafe Metro he worked as a busser,server and Pastry Chef. He made the transition to the Uptown Cafe in the early ’90’s where he honed his cooking skills and became Head Chef. Matt lives in Crescent Hill with his wife and two sons. In addition his passion for food and wine, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and staying fit.

Allen Hubbard was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and has two children. He spent six years in the US Marine Corps as a Food Service Specialist and graduated from Sullivan University with a Culinary Arts Degree. He worked as Sous Chef at Vincenzo's, spent 4 years as an Executive Chef at 2 local universities and has been with Martini Italian Bistro for more than 7 years. Hubbard's hobbies include going to the track, dancing, traveling and of course, enjoying a great meal!

Legends do point to it being originated in the late 1930’s and Jose Cuervo was known to have run the first advertisement for the Margarita in 1945.

Leaudra and Walter Kern, along with their son George, created the very first Derby-Pie® in 1954 at the Melrose Inn, which was located in Prospect, Kentucky. To this day, Kern’s Kitchen still crafts each pie, one at a time, according to that legendary secret recipe.
