As the holidays reach full swing, the Derby City is offering up a wide variety of events for people of all ages, designed to make December a memorable and exciting time of year. From Christmas-themed offerings to a new feature exhibit about American Pharaoh at the Kentucky Derby Museum, we’ve got you covered throughout the end of 2016 – enjoy!

A Champions Tour with Mint Julep Tours / Dec. 8 & 29
Experience a newly updated 360-degree immersive sound and visual phenomenon of “The Greatest Race” in this historic walking tour of Louisville’s iconic Churchill Downs racetrack. Also included, a visit to Coolmore’s Ashford Stud where American Pharaoh and three0time champion sire Giant’s Causeway reside. The 8.5-hour tours are $139 per person and depart from the 3rd floor of the Galt House Hotel’s Rivue Tower at 9:30 a.m.

Christmas at the Galt House - KaLightoscope Christmas / Thru Dec. 24
The breathtaking KaLightoscope display showcases fabulous illuminated sculptures that tower from 8 to 24 feet into the air and take the centuries-old craft of Asian lantern making to new heights. Touted as one of the most spectacular holiday displays in the world, the experience includes a holiday dinner show and a life sized gingerbread village, as well as the Mistletoe Marketplace, which offers shopping and entertainment, as well as more food. Admission for adults is $15.95. Children 3012 are $6.95 and Children 2 and under are admitted free.

NYE Live! New Year’s Eve Celebration / Dec. 31
Touted as the “biggest and best” New Year’s Eve celebration in Louisville, this free party will feature music from 100% Poly, confetti canons, a balloon drop, party favors and the only bar drop held anywhere in town. VIP tickets are also available and include exclusive access to six bars and nightclubs, as well as an all-inclusive premium drink package from 9-12 p.m. The Fourth Street Live! location also offers easy access to Hard Rock Café, as well as public transportation, parking, other restaurants and hotels.

MEGA Cavern Lights Under Louisville / Thru Jan. 3
Nothing compares to the Lights Under Louisville MEGA Cavern experience, which has become a holiday favorite in recent years and features a 30-minute ride through part of the cavern’s 17 miles of underground passageways. The exhibit boasts more than 850 lit characters and more than 2,000,000 million points of light and is the only underground show of its kind in the world!

Light Up Louisville / Thru Jan. 2017
Come down to the plaza at 4th and Jefferson streets and experience Holiday Square as part of the annual Light Up Louisville festivities, which also include a popular Holiday Market on 4th Street between Liberty and Muhammad Ali, entertainment, food and drinks. Now in its 36th year, the month long event serves as a kickoff celebration for the holidays in Derby City.

White Christmas: The Exhibit at The Frazier Museum / Thru Jan. 5
Now back by popular demand the Frazier History Museum will host “White Christmas: The Exhibit” this holiday season, with costumes, posters and other memorabilia from the 1954 classic film starring Kentucky’s own Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen. All items are on loan from the Rosemary Clooney House in Augusta, Kentucky and also include authentic props from the film, including several costumes.
