The Cincinnati Symphony was established in 1896 and is the sixth oldest symphony orchestra in the United States. At that time, Haydn and Beethoven were still living and Cincinnati was only a small village surrounding Fort Washington. The Cincinnati Orchestra gave its first concert in December of 1872 and the nucleus of that group eventually went on to become the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra that we know and love today.

The Music Hall, located just north of downtown in Over The Rhine is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and is home to the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras as well as the Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Ballet and the annual May Festival, which is the longest-running choral festival in the Western hemisphere.
